Dynamic Embracing Action

The Lunar Month of
May 24, 2009 - June 22, 2009

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

Lunar Cycle Overview

Our New Moon of May 24, 2009 occurs in sidereal Taurus and conjoins the stars of dynamic Perseus. There are several catalytic planetary configurations occurring in this lunar month. Jupiter and Neptune make their first conjunction of three, with the final occurring on the December solstice of 2009. The Jupiter-Neptune several month conjunction surrounds the start of a new Jupiter-Neptune 12.7-year cycle occurring in September, which continues into 2022. The few month period ahead, from June through December inspires expansive visions and ideals, and brings the mobilizing force to bring them into fulfillment. Also synthesizing with Chiron, this is just what we need to cross the vast abyss that our world faces. Juno and Uranus make their first of three conjunctions, triggered on the Last Quarter Moon, which kicks off a period of radical unexpected changes and unique opportunities for relationships and partnerships of all types. This period continues through November 2009. Juno's arrival to join Uranus in opposition to Saturn is one of several significant events occurring in the few year long Saturn-Uranus Opposition. New year-long cycles with Earth, the Centaur Pholus, and recently discovered Ixion and Quaoar begin in sidereal Scorpio. Venus and Mars conjoin along with the Centaur Asbolus. Like Chiron bridges the realms of Saturn and Uranus, and is of extra significance now due to the Saturn-Uranus opposition, Asbolus bridges the realms of Jupiter and Neptune and is of extra significance throughout the several month Jupiter-Neptune conjunction.

Our New Moon in sidereal Taurus conjoins several prominent stars of Perseus: Mirphak, Alpha Perseus; Zeta Perseus and the potent X-Perseus neutron star.

Mirphak, a fortuitous star, considered the elbow of Perseus, embodies the totality and success of all that our hero Perseus embodies. Mirphak inspires responsible action to claim the true gift from the inner refinement we have gained through our past initiatory fires. Here we must acknowledge that our trials had to precede stepping forth into a greater fulfillment and our future destiny. (The story of Perseus and Royal Family)

Conjoining Mirphak is the foot of Perseus (created by Atiks, Omi Perseus; Zeta Perseus; and the intense neutron star, X–Perseus). Zeta and X-Perseus brings a powerful capacity to infuse the spiritual power gained from our initiations in life and to manifest our longer-term purpose and destiny in the physical world. This point in the ecliptic is one inspiring bold and dynamic action in the physical world.

Perseus New Moon Star Chart May 24, 2009

Also adding to this theme is Quasar 3C110 of Eridanus, the River of Life. Eridanus is of the soul's evolutionary journey through incarnate life. Eridanus is a very long constellation, starting at the star Kursa, which lies near enterprising Rigel of Orion (in late sidereal Taurus), and winds its way from Orion, backward in the ecliptic (east to west), through Aries where it reversing direction twice, then continues into Pisces and completes its journey in sidereal Aquarius at the star Achernar, the river's end. The stars of Eridanus reveal the nature of the trials and rewards the incarnating soul encounters throughout life's winding and initiatory sojourn.

Quasar 3C110 of Eridanus, conjoining our New Moon and the foot of Perseus, inspires us to apply a laser like focus to mold what may have been a physical barrier into the very means to accomplish our greater purpose and vision.

The Moon is also a bit north of the ecliptic at the same ecliptical latitude as the Pleiades star cluster. The Pleiades is of seeding and initiation, and inspires action to get things started--projects generally associated with physical logistics of our lives and families.

Our New Moon is also quincunx Pluto, which resides in sidereal Sagittarius. This aspect (a 150° harmonic) invites creative solution by taking the personal responsibility to change our antiquated patterns and life scenarios and to walk through the opening that doing so provides. It implies leaving something that is no longer serving us.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon occurs on May 27, 2009 in late sidereal Gemini. Jupiter and Neptune make the first of their three conjunctions just hours after the Crescent Moon. Our Crescent Moon conjoins Castor and Pollux of the Gemini Twins; also Adhara of Canis Major, and Gomeisa of Canis Minor.

"The Twins" are marked by the two principal stars: Pollux, the immortal extraterrestrial one, and Castor the mortal terrestrial one, the extraterrestrial incarnate. These two stars mark the last sevral degrees of sidereal Gemini. The Twins stand upon the galactic equator at a 60° angle to the ecliptic plane, with the "Feet of the Twins" lying in earlier Gemini, upon the "galactic equatorial node"--the "Gate of Man." Thus, Gemini is a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation, one common to our solar plane (ecliptic), and so with sol / soul purpose expressing through the daily activity of humankind--the theme of the Gate of Man. The role of the Gemini Twins is of partnership in mutual cooperation participating in the human world, one of linking and uniting the mission of the soul (galactic plane) into and through our daily affairs in the world. The Twins work hand-in-hand for the betterment and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind. And of course, Gemini is of communication, commerce, and activity.

Although the Twins (Castor and Pollux) are of communication and human betterment, they have in some legend been at odds with each other, a bit argumentative. Here is the Gemini trait of competitiveness, debate, arbitration, and negotiation, but ultimately leading to agreement and solution.

The Temple of Castor and Pollux

The ruins of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Forum Romanum was orginally constructed / finished in 484 BC. In republican times the temple served as a meeting place for the Roman Senate, and from the middle of the 2nd century BC the front of the podium served as a speaker's platform. During the imperial period the temple housed the office for weights and measures, and was a depository for the State treasury. (Wikipedia) --fitting to Gemini.

Castor is the liaison or manger in the world of daily human affairs, and is of partnerships and cooperation. Castor brings resources and people together that serve to get logistics accomplished in the world of business and commerce; whereas Pollux is more of the ambassador and leader, bringing a greater awareness to the efforts of Castor, and uniting groups and factions with concern for the greater evolutionary fulfillment of all parties.

Also entering this band of the ecliptic is Adhara, a part of the hind quarter of Canis Major; and Gomeisa of Canis minor. Adhara conjoins Castor and Gomeisa conjoins Pollux. The Arabic Adhara means virgins (and should not be confused with Aludra, the pure one of the bread, which is near by in longitude but not in distance). Adhara is the aid, assistant or manager, those in a liaison position in larger cooperative groups or organizations. Adhara inspires co-participation and the emergence of colleagues and friends to lend a hand to Castor's efforts.

Gomeisa is assistant to the principal star of Canis Minor, Procyon, which also conjoins Pollux and which marks the sidereal Gemini-Cancer cusp. Procyon is of larger groups and organizations working for the betterment humanity in business and commerce. Gomeisa can indicate those with special expertise in the area of negotiation and communication, sometimes those that assist such efforts behind the scenes.

Public Relations and liaison articulates the nature of the Twins--linking individuals together in larger groups or organizations that can serve a purpose far greater than the separate parties can accomplish alone. Here we find motivation for the coordination and exchange of resources and information between individuals and groups, and the planning of more encompassing joint ventures.

Thus our New Moon theme rapidly expands from personal bold and dynamic action to one of cooperation and co-participation.

Jupiter and Neptune

Jupiter

Jupiter and Neptune make the first of three conjunctions hours after the Crescent Moon in early sidereal Aquarius. The second conjunction occurs in July and the third on the December solstice of 2009. A new Jupiter synod occurs in the midst of these conjunctions on September 19, 2009. This event marks the completion of the previous 12.7-year Jupiter-Neptune synodic cycle and the start of the next one. The previous cycle began on December 24, 1996. The theme of that cycle was defined by the stars in early sidereal Capricorn. Our new cycle starting in September begins on the cusp of sidereal Aquarius. The previous cycle was driven from personal interest and gain to manifest one's personal ideals. The new cycle will be driven from a humanitarian focus, in the interest of all peoples. Jupiter will also conjoin Uranus later in opposition to Saturn (shown in the Saturn-Uranus timeline 2008-2011). This current set of Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions also in synchronize with the Centaur Chiron's conjunctions with Neptune and Jupiter--all adding to the impetus for humanity to create and cross vast new vistas that provide solution to the current challenges our world faces.

Synodic cycles begin when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun, which is called a planetary synod. Synod means place of meeting. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.

Learn the basics about Synodic Cycles & Synodic Astrology.

Jupiter tends to expand and mobilize what ever it aligns with; and with Neptune this means the expansive mobilization of ideals, dreams and visions; as well as a inspiring a new visionary consciousness--again motivated from the humanitarian essence of sidereal Aquarius, and the heart of Cygnus (Sadr). Neptune's atmosphere shifts and changes continuously, looking quite different in just a few days time. This is one of the astrophysical characteristics of Neptune that reveals why Neptune to tends to dissolve things into universality; it is amorphous, swirling and shifting, and thus also lends itself to the exploration of creative ideas and alternative realms of perception. Jupiter and Neptune can also lead those living in dream world to act upon things that lack real substance or viability; and thus the issue of discernment arises as well--a kidney-related bio-resonance issue associated with Neptune. Jupiter bio-resonances govern the musculature, ligaments and lymphatic systems.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on May 30-31 in mid-sidereal Leo, nesting between Ceres and Saturn; and conjoins Alioth and the potent seyfert galaxy NGC 4051 of Ursa Major; Beta Sextans, and Suhail Velorum of Argo Navis. This is also the ecliptical longitude of Orcus' aphelion.

Alioth of Ursa Major, is the star of personal will. Alignments with Alioth teach us that our personal actions can alter the evolutionary currents that create our souls' evolutionary destiny. Alioth stimulates the use of personal will and our need to initiate personal action. Alioth is one of the classical seven rays of the Great Bear teaching incarnating souls the ramifications of the use of personal power. Alioth can express as forceful and manipulative use of power merely for personal gain, or when mastered, it can express as personal will attuned to Divine Will in phenomenal accomplishment that responsibly steers our evolutionary course.

Conjoining Beta Sextans inspires our need to act from a place of centeredness, conscious of our position and the direction we wish to head for.

Suhail Lambda Velorum on the sail of the Argo is of soul's transcendent evolutionary purpose and mission. The Arab Suhail articulates the nature of the Sail of the Argo--of the elegant and subtle evolutionary currents guiding the plane (ship) of the soul. "Suhail, among the Persians, is synonymous for wisdom; as in the Al Anwar i Suhaili, the Lights of Canopus. Also a personal title taken in Arabia as a symbol for what is brilliant, glorious, and beautiful--and even by the Arab nomads is still used when referring to a handsome person." (Allen). Hence the general attractiveness of the true Leo. Suhail Velorum is of the transcendent or subtle energy currents that underlie the material world, those that support our greater incarnational sojourn.

Our First Quarter Moon's stimulus to action challenges us to responsibly use our personal will to steer our greater and long-term evolutionary course.

Earth, Pholus, Ixion & Quaoar

Earth begins new synodic cycles with Pholus, Ixion & Quaoar in this lunar cycle, all residing in sidereal Scorpio. All of these cycles are about use of power and the creative forces governing life and death.

The Earth-Pholus Synodic Cycle

A new year-long Earth-Pholus synodic cycle begins on June 1, 2009. Like the Centaur Chiron, which links the orbital realms of Saturn and Uranus, the Centaur Pholus links the realms Saturn and Orcus. Pholus' orbit is much more elliptical than Chiron's, thus reaching from the orbit of Saturn (at is closest point to the sun during its orbit), out across the orbit of Uranus, across the orbit of Neptune, and to the orbit of Orcus.

Orcus has a nearly identical orbital size, orbital period (year) and inclination as Pluto. However, the orbital plane of Orcus is tilted in the opposite direction from Pluto's. Orcus is clearly Pluto's counterpart or compliment and is just as significant as Pluto. Mythologically, Orcus is the god of oaths and is punisher of those not living true to their soul oaths. The orbital parameters of Orcus suggest that Orcus invites us to adjust our tack in life and to redirect the use of our personal will, to lift ourselves beyond the judgmental segregations of life and apply our personal efforts for the greater nourishment of all humanity. Orcus invites us to apply our daily activities in-line with our true soul's purpose--to live true to the oath of the soul. More about Pluto and Orcus.

Orcus-Pluto orbits

Thus, Pholus may help to lead us from the conforming bounds and limitations of our past, to make the radical changes in our lives, to pierce the veils obscuring our more transcendent soul purpose, and to awaken to that purpose and live it. More about Pholus.

The theme of this new Earth-Pholus synodic cycle is revealed by the stars of mid-sidereal Scorpio--Antares, heart of the Scorpion; and Restaban of Draco. Pholus is traveling 20° north of the ecliptic through Ophiuchus, and thus in an area of heavens with more of an overseeing, wakened and empowered nature.

In classical astrology, Antares is the star of war and weaponry, and with expounded meaning, to challenge the established opposing politics (an arena common to the Antares / Aldebaran axis) with tenacious adamancy. This is especially in regard to taking a stand against the established conditions of our personal lives and against the established order or authority directing our lives when those conditions or that authority are no longer in our best interest nor supporting our evolutionary freedom and fulfillment.

However, It is only the less aware whom mistake this power point in the ecliptic to mean fight or destroy what one still perceives as forces outside of self. Antares marks a point of empowerment in sidereal Scorpio, a point of immanation. Those who have embraced their initiations and claimed their self-empowerment, who have graduated from playing victim in the entrapments common to the claws of the Scorpion, and who have learned to take responsibility for their reality, this is place of self-empowerment. The Heart of the Scorpion teaches us to realize the inseparable nature of life, to reconcile the forces within and without, to know of the oneness and inseparable permeability of the Creation Force--as is exemplified by Ophiuchus, who demonstrably stands over the Scorpion, the exemplar of this wisdom. Either way, Antares motivates us to take responsibility for our reality, for the lives we create, and to "take a stand" for our truth and live it.

Restaban, one of the eyes of the Dragon oversees the initiations of the incarnate soul. Restaban opens portals and pathways in the physical world for those who have truly embraced the initiations of life, who have aligned with the path of soul rather than the convenient path of personality gratification, and who demonstrate their self mastery and responsibility live true to self and in service to others, portals that are otherwise blocked to those of immature selfish intent or who are resistant to or in denial of the initiations of life.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

This Gibbous Moon occurs on June 3 in early-sidereal Libra. Although the constellation of Virgo begins at the Leo-Virgo cusp, it extends into the first 17 degrees of the sidereal sign of Libra. The Virgin lies supine with her head at the beginning of Virgo. The Virgin's base chakra (Spica, Alpha Virgo) marks the cusp of Virgo- Libra, while the Virgin's legs extend well into Libra, with her feet marking the center (15°) of sidereal Libra. The constellation of Virgo embraces ~46° of the zodiak.

The few degree area of early sidereal Libra, just past Spica, lies within the upper thighs of the Virgin and reveals a synthesis of intimacy, support, compatibility, and environmental harmony. It is about creating and ensuring harmonious environments, mutually compatible relations, and about the processes and procedures in our personal lives that support our psychophysiological (mental-emotional-physical) wellbeing--a healthy incarnate experience of life that supports the illumination (ascension) of consciousness.

Environmental support is a key phrase here. This includes the environmental conditions of the Earth, of our personal living environments, and a harmonious environment (resonance) in our relations. Thus, art, intimacy and beauty are all of significance in creating a nurturing environmental resonance in our lives. Living at or traveling to the right locations at various times in our lives is also of importance--to be in proper (space-time) harmony.

The first few degrees of sidereal Libra, at the upper thighs of the Virgin, includes the psychophysiology (mental-emotional-physical correspondences) of the thighs: The back of our thighs (hamstrings) is of past / returning support, acquired support and personal ability; the outside of our thighs (abductors) is of external (non-intimate) support from friends, family and from our environment; the inside of our thighs (adductors) is of intimate support, including sexual intimacy; and the front of our thighs (Quadriceps) is of future support; support to move forward. There can be various fears associated with each of these muscles, but all have to do with fear of support / of weakness / of not having the strength.

A Gibbous Moon by nature is magnetic and attractive--and this one draws us to explore that which is conducive to our well-being and harmony in life and in our relations.

The Earth-Ixion Synodic cycle

Earth and Ixion begin a new year-long cycle on Jun 5, 2009 in sidereal Scorpio. Recently discovered Ixion resides a few degrees further along in sidereal Scorpio, and lies just south of the ecliptic. Ixion recently crossed its south node in mid-Scorpio, submerging below the ecliptic plane. I lies straddled between the feet of Ophiuchus and over the body on the Scorpion. Ixion conjoins Alpha Apodis and Sarin of Hercules.

Mythologically, Ixion is not such a nice guy, the archetype of a suppressive self-serving manipulative tyrant; generally of those in leadership positions; and here in Scorpio, regarding the manipulation of sexual forces and the use of power. However, Ixion's transition across its south node indicates a need for relinquishment of control; and its path directly toward Galactic center and the tip of the Zen Archer's arrow may be the ultimate payback for this archetypical character in the world. More about Ixion.

Sarin of Hercules is of strength and responsibility to aid others in their struggle for freedom. Here with Ixion, Sarin suggests a need to take responsibility for the ramifications of manipulative and suppressive actions in the lives of others--perhaps more than just a need, but a demand to fess up to the charges. At a personal level this cycle may motivate us address any conflict within that leads us to any type of manipulative behavior.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

Our Full Moon occurs on June 7 in late sidereal passionate Scorpio. The Moon, just prior to Full, conjoins Pholus and then Ixion. The Full Moon occurs just past the longitude of Ixion and just before that of Quaoar--conjoining both Ixion and Quaoar within a couple of degrees. The Full Moon conjoins Ras Algethi, the head of Hercules, the lucida (brightest star) of this constellation.

Ras Algethi embodies the wisdom of Hercules (derived partly from his heavenly heritage and partly from his challenging Earthian experience) and contributes significantly to the Ophiuchus / Scorpio theme. Hercules is one seeded from another realm but who is intimately aware of the human dilemma, the struggle and its cause (the alchemical amalgamation of those from the heavens with those of the Earth). His beauty and intelligence he gains from Alcmene his mother and his wisdom of evolutionary matters along with his shrewd sagacity he gains from Zeus is father. The motivation behind his undaunted and bold actions expresses from experiencing the human struggle and knowing the heavenly freedom possible. His presence upon the incarnational plane is of a service capacity, a mission of evolutionary proportion--to ensure our evolutionary freedom both personally and for all souls on Earth. Hercules helps and teaches others to claim their freedom from the dominion of others and from false beliefs they may hold.

Our Full Moon may bring realizations regarding our subconscious motivations regarding how we are using our creative power in our lives; how it effects the lives of others; and if it is supporting the suppression of our and other's freedom, or if it is supporting a return to harmonious and balance way of life.

The Earth-Quaoar Synodic Cycle

Earth and Quaoar (pronounced kwah-whar) begin a new year-long synodic cycle on June 9-10. Quaoar, discovered in 2002, has an orbital period of 288 years, orbiting the sun in a near perfect circle. It also has only a slight orbital inclination compared to the other new planetary bodies discovered so far, lending to its rather harmonious nature. Quaoar supports our return to the sacredness of life; to live in harmony with nature and to have respect for all life. More about Quaoar.

Quaoar currently resides in Ophiuchus, about 8° north of the ecliptic just past Sabik of Ophiuchus. It conjoins Sabik; and the Ara Black Hole, X–Ray Source V821.

Sabik, the right knee of Ophiuchus, closely conjoining Ras Algethi, the Head of Hercules, reveals a powerfully transformative location in sidereal Scorpio, one offering a significant transmutational experience due to the alchemical intermixing of elements, often of a sexual, genetic, biological or botanical nature. Sabik is also of medicine, healing, medical research and the art-science of alchemy. Conjoining Sabik are several potent entries: V2107, the Nova of 1977 also in Ophiuchus; a dynamic X-ray eclipsing binary star in the tail of the Scorpion, one of the brightest identified X-ray sources.

Sabik of Ophiuchus conjoining the Nova of 1977 (V2107) also in Ophiuchus, and the 3U1700-37 black hole, which lies just under the tail of the Scorpion along the galactic equator, may stimulate new creative ideas or personal involvements that lead to our greater bio-logical well-being and illumination--especially regarding transmutation of our experience and our human condition from a lower-order to a more refined state of being. This level of transmutation in our lives requires full unconditional acceptance and integration of our past experience, so the bio-energetic patterning we hold within can be inverted to re-express its compliment--thus allowing a new expression that subsequently draws new fulfilling experience. This process in esoteric science and physics is called time-reversal or phase-conjugation. In advanced healing and meditative techniques, this is a means of producing the opposite but properly phased cellular pattern or signature within self that cancels (fulfills) the existing pattern we embody. In typical black hole fashion this is an all-or-nothing deal requiring our unconditional willingness embrace the healing process. The choice is ours, to live our heart's truth or live lies. One will create health and set us free, the other will perpetuate the symptoms of our inner discord. A popular misuse of this energetic is seen in the synthetic drug movement that further suppresses our neurology or artificially and temporarily stimulates it--which only causes further cellular degeneration and neurobiological atrophy, but no real healing.

Bacchus - Oil on Canvas by Caravaggio 1596

Ara, Altar of the Centaur, has also been imaged as the Altar of Dionysus, son of Zeus and Semele, god of wine and fertility, this was before the creation of Norma the square which is oddly placed between Lupus and Ara. Here was a censer in which perfumes were burned before the dead, also a brazier, both of which were associated with Vesta, goddess of the Hearth. Ara also represents the altars on the summits of temple towers, serving as lighthouses for the ancients, with the Alexandrian Pharos being the great example. The illustrations of Hyginus (1488-1535) show an altar from which flames ascended with demons on either side. Poetically it was described with flames rising northward through the Milky Way--along the starry stream and through galactic centre (Allen). Dionysus (Bacchus), god of ecstasy and wine, a mystic and lover, is known, in part, for rescuing women (descending to Helle--mortality--to save is mother) and restoring their office to Goddess--to their immortality. All of this refers to the purification process, the surrendering, or casting out that which is degenerative (the accumulations of judgments that bind us to mortality (judge ye not lest ye be judged) so we may attain our divine birthright, awakened to the illumined durative (immortal) souls that we are. In this light we have the principles underlying healing and the transmutation process, for which our northern illumined Ophiuchus stands.

The mythical image here is of the Centaur placing Lupus the beast with conscious deliberation upon the Centaur's sacrificial altar. V821 in Ara is an x-ray emitting & fluctuating binary star. This is a collapsed object (like a old neutron star) that accretes matter, and thus had been placed in the old Black Hole category by astronomers and is commonly called the Ara Black Hole. V821 accretes emotion for consummation in the Centaur's Pyre. Here we must place, with conscious deliberation, any long standing grief, guilt, anger, and any other emotion (especially self-judgment related) that we are holding upon the Altar of the Centaur for our transmutation. North from the Sting of the Scorpion drips the transmuting elixir (the often harsh lessons of life), upon the Altar. This act is essential to experience the actual neurological transmutation made possible here, and that leads to our greater self-mastery; the mastery of the creative and carnal forces of life exemplified by Ophiuchus, who stands over the Scorpion and this entire scene. If we are not ready to surrender and relinquish our antiquated emotional baggage, we are held back or sidetracked, and continue to experience upsets, diversions and even traumatic and catastrophic events in our lives because we are not truly ready to step into a greater self-empowerment and accomplish something of value.

This year-long Quaoar synodic cycle invites us to get ourselves in tune with natural law and natural living, especially in the areas of physical and emotional health and to clear any baggage we may carry that perpetuate a discordant relationship with nature. It inspires us to treat the body as the temple of the soul that it is--with respect for the very fundamentals of life. More about Quaoar.

Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift.

The Tarantula Nebula

The Tarantula Nebula a huge stellar nursery hosting some of the most massive stars known resides in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy near our own galaxy. The nebula extends about 1000 light years across, with streamers extending out to about 1800 light years, making the Tarantula Nebula the largest emission nebula in the sky--about 30 times larger than the Great Orion Nebula, which lies in our own galaxy. The Tarantula Nebula contains the fantastic Supernova SN 1987A, the result of a star (called Sanduleak) that suddenly blew to bits in a spectacular supernova on February 23, 1987 and which was then seen with the unaided eye, one of the brightest supernovas since the Kepler supernova of 1604. Astrologically, supernovas explosions are one of the cosmic phenomena stimulating an expansion of consciousness. Curiously, 1987 was the year of the Harmonic Convergence movement. Image credit: ESO

The Disseminating Moon occurs on June 11, under the auspices of the Eagle, and conjoins Theta Aquila; Alpha Microscopium; and Gamma Sagitta, the tip of the missile of Zeus. Also of influnce in northern constelation Vulpecula cum Anser, the sly and cunning fox and south is Indus, the indigenous shaman.

Theta Aquila is of equilibrium and poise; a place of removed stillness and astute observation. As Eagle sits high upon its perch, with eyes capable of focusing on the most minute detail (conjoining Microscopium), it assesses, examines, and awaits its opportunity. Removed and alone, Eagle embodies the willingness to examine our deepest emotions and hidden but true feelings; to gain our balance, to pin-point our objectives, and to then dive into the world with surety and boldness.

Sagitta, the Missile of Zeus, extends over the first decan of sidereal Capricorn, with its tip, Gamma Sagitta, of significance here. Sagitta embodies our strategic arsenal of tools--whether applied for war or peace--this includes our personal tools to accomplish our goals in the material world. The tip of missile inspires direct application of those tools. Alpha Microscopium articulates the tendency, capacity, and need for magnification and examination of detail, which is required to see where to apply our knowledge and tools through the diverse facades common to the human world.

Our Demonstrable Moon, fitting with our action oriented lunar theme, is about the pin-point application of our strategies, tools and resources. A question that may arise: Are we all talk, babbling about what we are going to do, or are we doing it?

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on June 15 just as Jupiter begins its retrograde. Of far more significance, the Moon conjoins Juno and Uranus on the cusp of sidereal Pisces. Juno makes three conjunctions with Uranus surrounding a new Juno-Uranus synodic cycle starting on September 8, 2009. Although the actual Juno-Uranus conjunction is a few days away (occurring hours before the Balsamic Moon of June 18-19), the two are a small fraction of degree apart and this lunar trigger occurring in the crescendo of their conjunction initiates the Juno-Uranus energetic.

Juno now begins to play a primary role in our planetary symphony and continues to do so through the end of 2009 as it joins Uranus in opposition to Pluto throughout this period. Juno is the asteroid of covenant relationships and soul colleagues; of mutual compatibility, diplomacy, trust and respect. Radical Uranus breaks us from the conforming bounds of the past, from the status quo. Uranus brings the unexpected, inspires spontaneity, is of higher mind and is future oriented.

The Juno-Uranus conjunction, triggered by this Last Quarter Moon, begins a several month period catalyzing radical change and unexpected opportunities for relationships and partnerships of all types as we make the transition from the previous Juno-Uranus synodic cycle into the next. The Juno-Uranus opposition to Saturn occurring now through December can bring inner conflicts as well as conflicts in relationships to surface. The conflict can be due to a strong need to change while feeling oppressed or restricted by existing conditions, however change must ultimately occur. This need to change will intensify when Pluto begins to square Juno in July, and then further when Pluto begins to square Saturn in mid-November. Jupiter will then conjoin Uranus and both will oppose Saturn starting in May of 2010, mobilizing and expanding upon the changes we are making in 2009. The Juno-Uranus conjunctions staring now may also invite greater cooperation between those focused in change, who are challenging that which is antiquated to find a new way into the future.

These cycles occurring throughout 2009 and 2010 embrace the synchronizations of two primary transitions in much longer-term cycles underlying the evolutionary unfoldment of human consciousness. One is the "Saturn Uranus Synodic Opposition" occurring in September 2009, which is the mid-point of transition in the current 44-year Saturn-Uranus synodic cycle. The other is the "Jupiter-Uranus Synodic Synchronization" occurring in September 2010, which marks the start of a new 13.5-year Jupiter-Uranus synodic cycle.

This entire scenario is outlined and discussed further in the article "The Five Saturn Uranus Oppositions: The Challenge, The Turning, & the Mobilization of Change 2008-2011."

Our Juno-Uranus Last Quarter Moon on the cusp of sidereal Pisces conjoins the Circlet of stars creating the head of the western fish of Pisces. This is just a degree or two past the same location as the Mars-Uranus synodic cycle, which began in the last lunar cycle. Here we cross the cusp into the palpable and emotional world of the masses and of life. Lying north of the circlet and marking this Piscean cusp is Matar, on the left forearm of Pegasus, which marks the gush point in the zodiak. Matar is from Al Sa‘d al Matar--the Fortunate Rain--Martar articulates our movement from high mental and social activity of later sidereal Aquarius to the wet sensual emotional world of Pisces and the aquatics.

Our Last quarter Moon's inner need to initiate change invites us to get out of our heads and to palpate what feels right in our relationships, to honor our gut feelings and to interrelate from that feeling and to initiate making any changes in our lives that may be appropriate. With no doubt, as stated above, this marks the time for radical changes in our relations to begin. More about Juno and Juno related issues.

Sun Gemini

The Sun moves into sidereal Gemini on June 15 (MST), 16 (GMT).

The Venus-Jupiter Synodic Cycle

The Sun, Venus and Jupiter align on June 16-17, which begins a new 238-day Venus-Jupiter synodic cycle. In the last decan (ten degrees) of sidereal Capricorn--in the overlap area of the constellations Capricorn and Aquarius. The principle star alignment is with northern Sualocin of Delphinus, the Dolphin star system. Also conjoining is Rotanev, Beta Delphinus; Al Nair, Alpha Gruis; and Delta Cygnus, which is one of the stars marking the northern outstretched wing of Cygnus.

Aphrodite

Aphrodite

This is area of the zodiak produces intelligent, knowledgeable and articulate expression that leads to fortuitous experience. It provides opportunity to participate and express from the intelligent maturity and truth of a self-realized conscious being rather than following whatever mass-propaganda happens to be in vogue.

Gruis the crane enters the ecliptic from the south as an underling and eloquently supportive influence to the last decan of sidereal Capricorn. The stellar influence of Gruis brings brilliance in grammatical arts, is a contributor to the excellence in law and associated disciplines requiring articulation of the written word.

The last decan of Capricorn is of libraries, courts, publishing houses, literary agencies, or where any legalities are formulated, agreed upon and concretized. Here lies the constructive character of Saturn, which is at home in Capricorn.

Gruis as the stork, is carrier of bodies of knowledge, information, and news associated with new life and new beginnings. The southern Toucan’s loquacious and gregarious qualities also underlie Gruis contributing to the expressive and articulate nature of this area of the zodiak.

Another mythical image of Gruis is that of Aaron the high-priest scientist with Al Nair, Alpha Gruis, being the head or wisdom of Aaron, the embodiment of knowledge. Al Nair also conjoins Alpha and Beta Delphinus, Sualocin and Rotanev, of the northern Dolphin star system.

Delphinus expresses through the last decan of sidereal Capricorn, merging the primary essence of these heavenly angelic guides--the Dolphins--with the future-oriented visionary Aquarian influence that permeates later sidereal Capricorn. The oracular angelic guides of Delphi merge and meander with the future-oriented visionary Aquarian influence through the rock-hard conforming stoic past of Capricorn and spring from the ground as prophetic life carrying waters--a flow of guiding wisdom not otherwise available by mortal efforts alone, a flow that leads us from the crystallized into the unbounded future to become.

Sualocin of Delphinus offers guidance for those willing to trust in this greater guiding intellignce, guidance greater than our personal efforts can generate alone. The Dolphins, an expression of angelic dominion, are guides for the wayward, as old salts know. They reveal the way to make safe passage to our destination, to our greater nourishment and fulfillment, provided we listen to and participate in the serendipity of life.

To experience in the serendipity of life requires we surrender the pre-occupations of reasoning mind, those of worry and our need to define and control, of what we "think" we "should" be doing. It instead requires us to be attentive to and trust any subtle impulses we may feel at any given moment--to move with the Divine Intelligence that permeates and fluidly guides our lives. Here lies the art of getting out of our own way to allow creative solutions that lead us from the conforming bounds of limited mind.

This seems to be a perfect theme for our new Venus-Jupiter cycle--to allow the wisdom of an expanding and unbounded heart to lead the way.

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Juno-Uranus conjunction occurs just hours before the Balsamic Moon of June 19. The Balsamic Moon exactly conjoins Venus, Mars and Centuar Asbolus. Venus and Mars lie a fraction of a degree apart, about to conjoin on the June 21 solstice.

The synchronization of Venus and Balsamic Moon occurs only when Venus is at it "western elongation." The eastern and western elongations of Venus occur before and after each Earth-Venus synod (before and after the start of each new Earth-Venus synodic cycle). See " Venus Elongations and the Crescent Moon" to learn more about the synchronizations of Venus with either the Crescent Moon or Balsamic Moon. This event including Mars (as well as Asbolus) is a very rare event. Venus, Mars and the Balsamic Moon make a beautiful sight in the eastern sky just before sunrise.

Venus Mars Balsamic Moon of June 19, 2009

Looking east just before Sunrise

The Mars-Venus-Asbolus-Balsamic Moon occurs in sidereal Aries and conjoins Beta and Gamma Triangulm; Zibal of the river Eridanus; and Tycho’s Super Nova Remnant of 1572 A.D.

Zibal marks a pause, a point of consideration, along Eridanus, the river of life, inviting an introspective moment while Triangulum invites us to look beyond the dramatics of those around us and of own life scenarios to realize any entrapping conditions manifest in our lives are but a reflection of the projection of our own fears--a principle key in the revelation found along the river. In the story of the Royal Family, Perseus set his sight on Triangulum as he flew over Cetus to free his beloved Andromeda-- to see beyond the fear-based illusion of the technobureaucratic monster created by collective human consciousness.

Alignments with Tycho's supernova support the expansion from egoic / victim consciousness, where we believe we are victims of other beings, ones that are responsible for our condition and ones that must come to save us from it (or devour us as food as some people believe), to realizing that we must stand on our own, responsible for self, rather than giving our power to those who wish to control. Here in the "Initiatory Gate of sidereal Aries," we learn to realize our role: to become responsible for our human condition as well as to claim our freedom from its bondage.

The Centaur Asbolus bridges the realms of Jupiter and Neptune, much like Chiron bridges the realms of Saturn and Uranus. Asbolus is a diviner, intuitive, able to read messages in nature, especially in the nebulous clouds. We can think of the Asbolus-Venus-Mars conjunction as inspiration to mobilize with expansive creative action to achieve our dreams and visions. Perhaps this conjunction is also a forewarning that we must take bold and embracing action from the intuition we may feel in our hearts.
